Writing information products (eBooks) is one of the most popular ways of starting or developing an online business.

Why? Because the subject range is unlimited as is the angle or perspective you can bring to a subject. Plus, it can cost nothing except your time to create it. Everyone that has a computer has a word processor (even if it’s WordPad) and PDF creators can be found for free (PDF is still the best way to distribute eBooks).

That said, it is not always trouble-free. How do you get started and how do you manage if you have never written an eBook before?

Step 1 - Why Are You Writing an eBook?

First, make a list of the reasons you are writing your ebook. Do you want to promote your business? Do you want to bring quality traffic to your website? Do you want to enhance your reputation? All very good reasons but don’t make it too obvious. Don’t come across as selfish - give something to get something back.

Then write down your goals in terms of publishing. Maybe your going to sell it as a product on your website, or offer it as a free gift or bonus eBook for your main product to increase its value?

Bottom line is, the more you know upfront, the easier the actual writing will be.

Step 2 - Know Your Subject

Next, and most important - write about something you know. This allows you to keep the book flowing, present credibility and shows your readers you have some insight on the subject - and hence maybe something to offer they may not have heard before.

Step 3 - Where to Begin?

Next, the hardest part of writing is - starting. When you look at the whole project, it seems like an impossible task. You have to break it down into manageable tasks.

It’s no different to anything else in life. Whenever you’re faced with a seemingly insurmountable task, there is only one way to approach it. Step-by-Step. Break it down into manageable mini-tasks and see the completion of each one as an achievement to celebrate spur you on. Reward yourself, even if it’s only with a break, a coffee or 10 minutes on the games console.

Step 4 - Get Organized

The next thing you have to do is to get organized. First, organize your thoughts. There are some steps you should take before you begin. Go through the following list of issues. When complete, you should be prepared and ready to begin writing your ebook.

Why? Because it gives you a focal point. Spend time on it, as it is something you should keep coming back to for inspiration. Always make sure you don’t deviate from it. Step 6 - Write an Overview

Once you’ve got your overview fine-tuned, you’ve built your foundation. From that point, your eBook will develop, sentence-by-sentence then page-by-page and finally chapter-by-chapter until before you know; it will be finished.

Your overview will keep you focused while you write your ebook. Remember: all chapters must support your overview. If there is a chapter that doesn’t fit - delete it. For example, your overview could be something like: We’ve all experienced a weight problem at times in our lives, but I have discovered fourteen proven methods to help you get the figure you yearn for.

But if this is what you say, you must give fourteen proven methods. If you don’t, you lose credibility with your readers and they will be searching for ways to get a refund. At best, you will never sell them a follow-up product. This is where the real money is on the Internet. Repeat business not a one-off sale.

Step 7 - Review and Regroup

Once you have your overview, before you start to write, make sure there is a good reason to write your eBook. Ask yourself some questions:

* Does it give useful information and is that information relevant today?

* Will your eBook benefit your readers?

* Is your ebook interesting - will it keep you reader turning every page to see what comes next?

You also need to grab their attention early on and the best way to do this is to make them feel that you can answer their problems. After all, why did they buy the book? Make them feel they made the right decision and that you know what you are talking about.

Step 8 - Start Laying Out Your eBook

Next, write out chapter headings. You may or may not end up using chapters but it another part of the processing of breaking the job down into manageable steps to tackle one at a time. Breaking the job into smaller tasks (in this case chapters) will make it easier. It’s also the way to expand on your overview and see if your chapters address everything. Check - is there something missing that you said you were going to cover?

Remember - step-by-step manageable pieces.

Writing an eBook is like any other form of writing - be it a letter, a user guide, a report etc - you must know who your target audience is and write to them. This will dictate things such as style, tone, diction, and even length of your eBook.

When it’s complete, you could also use parts of each chapter to create an e-course as a way of promoting it.

Taking all the above into consideration, you could have your eBook finished in no time at all and ready to promote via your website. You could be well on the way to an Internet best-seller.

If you want to know why doctors make some of the recommendations they do, then here is the book for you. Speaking as both a physician and a patient, Reznik helps us to understand what motivates our physicians and why they often say the things they do. “The Secrets of Medical Decision Making” is a book we can all benefit from reading because we all need health care at some time, or we are put in the situation of needing to make medical decisions for another. Oleg I. Reznik, M.D. has a goal of making us conscious and informed in the medical decisions we must make; by doing so we could have a much better health care system than we currently have.

Reznik calls our current health care system The Health Care Machine because it has become so mechanical. So many demands must be met that it is almost like an assembly line. As patients, we need to have freedom to make our choices and to question the system. The physicians and other health care workers are placed in a position called The Medical Box within The Health Care Machine because they are pressured to have only a standard, mechanical response to any given set of problems. As patients, we need to be aware of this system and the way it works so we can be aware of the limitations. Doctors are not omnipotent, which so many of us want to believe, and they should be relieved of such a burden, but so often, they are forced to stay “in the box” to protect themselves.

To ease our understanding of the material Reznik presents, he addresses four different viewpoints with each topic. Patient/Family Perspective deals with issues that would be most relevant to prospective patients and their families. Physician’s Perspective gives the physicians viewpoint on the discussed topic. Societal Perspective gives the ramifications on the society as a whole. Spiritual/Philosophical Perspective talks about the spiritual and philosophical aspects of medical care because these cannot be taken from any attempt at trying to understand a human being. Dr. Reznik presents true stories of actual clinical studies in his book to help explain the “rules of the game” in this game of health care. He wants us to understand what drives the doctor so that we can learn to be more self-reliant.

I found the information on several different medical tests to be quite informative. We are given some questions to think about before agreeing to a test and the reasons why doctors prescribe the tests to begin with. Reznik speaks at length about prostate screening and the treatment of prostate cancer, mammograms, and how the statistics on cancer survival have progressed. All the information he presents is quite interesting and worth one’s time to read in order to be a more informed individual.

Everyone may not find all the information presented by Reznik to be relevant, but we can all benefit from the ideas presented. I personally will feel less intimidated the next time I ask, “Why?” when the doctor recommends something I am not sure about. Take charge of your health and do what is best for YOU. Reading this book is well worth anyone’s time who wants to be an informed patient.

In this small volume, the author provides the reader with a clear, concise outline of four basic steps to help turn goals into a reality. At the end of each step, the author provides a simple exercise for the reader to complete, which helps cement the concept in that chapter. These exercises are easy to follow, and help bring a clearer understanding of the principles in the book.

The first step really shows how important it is to recognize how your goal will help others, rather than just how it will help you. Also, this chapter points out the necessity of flexibility. We have to be willing to change and adjust our goals as we become closer to achieving them, and as our circumstances may change. Next, you are shown how important wording of a goal is. By showing the impact this goal will have on others in clear terms, it is easier for others to help you attain that goal. In the third step, the power of positive speaking is demonstrated. The author describes a “success script” as an essential tool in working toward a goal. In speaking positively, you are more able to attract success. Lastly, the author talks about taking action each and every day in order to make goals and dreams a reality. By putting these four steps into practice, and making them part of daily life, it is possible to achieve any goal a person may set.

Kick Start Your Success may be a slim volume, but it supports the age-old adage “Good things come in small packages”. There is not a single extraneous word in this book. The writing is clear and concise, and very easy to read. It is written in a friendly manner, and helps take the intimidating thought of an unattainable goal and helps break it down into small, manageable steps. Mr. Wolter has provided a wonderful reference to anyone who has great ideas, but a hard time making them a reality.

Remember the Batman movies? Well, the movie producer
of successful movies like these and entertaining children’s
television shows such as Where on Earth is Carmen
Sandiego?, Michael Uslan, has released this adorable
children’s book. Chatterbox - The Bird Who Wore Glasses
is available in a durable, hard-cover format with a lovely
cover sleeve that will help prolong the life of the book. At 40
pages and full of excellent illustrations, this book is sure to
entertain children.

Sad, red-headed Nancy doesn’t fit in well with the other kids
who call her “Nancy Nobody”. She wished and wished for a
new friend and one day the dream came true when a
feathered, sight-challenged friend flew her way. Nancy felt
needed, she was loved, and her world was set right by her
new funny bird.

John Steven Gurney, a very successful artist and illustrator,
colorfully illustrates the large pages with plenty of things to
look at. Written in playful, light verse the author does
mention things like prayer and “God’s love”, there fore it may
appeal to a religious audience.

The book includes a CD with 2 songs and the orated
version of the story by actress Brittany Murphy (voice of
Luanne on King of the Hill, also known for her parts in
Clueless and Up Town Girls). This could certainly appeal to
the independent child who wants to “read” the book
themselves. As well, the CD option may provide a few extra
minutes for busy caregivers. The bullying shown in the
beginning of the story, though very minor, may be useful for
building empathy in the classroom for lonely and
segregated individuals.

Children with family pets, especially birds, would definitely
enjoy this book. Also, kids that are just becoming used to
either themselves or someone they know who has recently
gotten eye-glasses.
