Thoughts on New Poker Crusher Software

I know the saying that bad publicity is still publicity, but I guess I’m just going to go ahead and give this piece of software some bad publicity. There’s a program out now called Poker Crusher, and personally I disdain this type of program, but first let me tell you what it does.

Poker Crusher basically is a stat tracking tool, similar to Poker Copilot, Poker Tracker, and Hold ‘Em Manager, but the difference is the user doesn’t have to actually be in hands with his or her opponents to get their stats. Poker Crusher runs on a central database, and if a player is in the database, the player making the query gets all the information the database has on the player queried.

Now while this sounds good in theory, and of course gives the user a competitive edge, it just doesn’t seem like it’s a legitimate way to track data on another player. I’m all for the use of self generated data bases such as the ones created with the other three programs, but what Crusher is essentially doing is trying to circumvent the anti-datamining policies that just about every reputable poker online room has.

Perhaps it’s just that I see it as unfair that an anonymous player should have data on the tens of thousands of hands that I’ve played and have been logged in the crusher database, while I only have data on the ten I’ve played against him. Let’s call it an invasion of Everest Poker Francais privacy. In the hands of a sophisticated statistician or user, nearly anyone can be exploited by this method. And the software isn’t winning any favor in my book since it’s banned by several of the rooms it’s compatible with.

But the worst part is this: in the hand of an inexperienced user, they’re only going to lose money in the long run. A good player will quickly realize if he is being played against based upon his stats. A few cheap showdowns will give this away, and the experience player will be able to manipulate the data the other player is using and simply change the play style against that particular player.

It’s simply a lose-lose proposition.

Outs

Whenever I find myself holding a draw hand at Everest, I always feel a mixture of excitement and apprehension at the poker online table. I’ve got a chance to draw a hand that’s all but certain to rake in the pot, but if I don’t get the right card(s), I’m holding rags. Most of the time I find myself holding rags at the showdown, so my first instinct when I’m a card or two away from making my hand is to fold and wait for the next hand. Sometimes, though, it can pay off to see if the next card or two is going to make your hand. One of those times is when you’ve got a lot of cards that can make your hand.

If you have a ton of outs, your hand is probably worth chasing. Holding a gut shot straight draw is very different from holding a nut flush draw with top pair. With a gutshot straight draw, you’ve only got four cards to make your hand, while a flush draw gives you nine cards that can save your butt. The more cards that’ll make your hand, the better your chances of drawing a winning poker online hand.

Avoiding Problematic Hands with Big Stacks

Avoiding Problematic Hands with Big Stacks By B. Butler As in long period tournament poker, playing cash games with deep stacks places a poker player in a kind of “long haul” situation, where every decision can mean a lot more than just one moment of decision: the biggest choices, instead, equate to, if not one’s life, at least quite a bit more than a couple hours’ work. When playing with deep stacks, then, one must be more careful than average about getting into spots where you are put to a difficult decision for your whole stack. While it is worthwhile often to vary one’s hand selection and position moves, it is also important that when you find yourself in the big dance, you have the goods to defeat your opponent. Playing poker hands like ace seven off and thereabouts for a raise or a reraise will often get you into spots where you don’t have the nuts, but you have enough that you want to see the river. Limiting deep action pots to hand where you can act with confidence becomes more important than ever. All of this is not to say you shouldn’t be prospecting some when sitting deepif anything, the greatest rewards come when hands are not expectedbut there is a difference between prospecting early, and committing. You should play offensively in opening, and defensively when the big decisions come.

Steps

It seems that ever since it was introduced by the Cereus network, STEPS has been growing in popularity. So while we’re thinking about it, let’s recap one of the winning strategies that could turn your small dollar investment into a trip to the WSOP or some other incredible poker tournament.

From site to site the Steps program varies. Some will put you in the WSOP, others have huge prize pools, and others still send you on vacation to play poker in exotic locations like the Aruba Poker Classic.

There are two ways to win the steps program. One is simple, you could buy into the last step (which is usually insanely pricey), and try to win the last step poker online tournament that way. Or you could take the Po’ Boy method.

The Po’ Boy Method is actually a brilliant idea that was coined by some of the fans over at Cereus who were first introduced to Steps before anyone else. They found that it’s much easier to try to win tickets from say 30 games a day before trying to attempt the next step. And mathematically this works out fairly well. Let’s say you’re a 50% Sit-n-Go Winner. You need to conquor 10 steps to win. In order for you to have the best mathematical probability to win step ten, you would need two step ten tickets. From there, you simply multiply backwards doubling the number of tickets for each event from the top step to the first. So From 2 step 10 tickets, you would need 4 step 9 tickets, 8 step 8 tickets, 16 step 7 tickets, 32 step 6 tickets, 64 step 5 tickets, 128 step 4 tickets, 256 step 3 tickets, 512 step 2 tickets, and would need to play 1024 step one games to do it.

While that is indeed a lot of games, if you look at the bankroll you need to play it, you would only need 102.40 dollars to play that many games at 10 cents a game. And since this is exponential based math, the fewer the steps, the fewer step one games you have to play. If there are only 5 steps, you’d only have to play 64 step one games to theoretically win enough to support your 50% win ratio!

Omaha Tournament Tips

Omaha poker competitions are considered harder and more stressful than Texas Hold ‘Em and other types of poker. Generally, Omaha draws two types of players: Those who like to test themselves with hard challenges; and those who simply like to gamble.

Keep these factors in mind when you play in Omaha tournaments in a casino:

* There is more risk and luck than other poker games. Getting the right starting cards is all a matter of luck, and an important part of winning the game.

* Bluffing is usually ineffective, especially early on in the tournament. Later in the game, when the field is narrowed to smarter players, bluffing can sometimes effect the outcome.

* Omaha is very popular in Europe, and Europeans as a whole are experienced gamblers. When you play Omaha online, you will be up against seasoned players accustomed to the extreme swings that Omaha brings.

* There will be more suck-outs and bad beats in Omaha than in other poker games. You must be mentally prepared to deal with these situations.

* Omaha requires a real “die to survive” approach. You must be willing to gamble, put your chips on the line and hope to get lucky.

Omaha poker hands are less readable and more unpredictable than other poker formats. Those new to Omaha should gain experience through low-stakes or free games online before risking any serious money in this popular form of poker.

Rakebacks Pay Players

Some online poker sites offer “rakebacks” to their players to reward them as good customers. What is a rakeback? Basically, it a payment made to player that is based on the rake that player has paid the site. The rakeback is calculated as a percentage of the all the raked hands the player has participated in.

Getting a rakeback is a form of discounting for the player/customer. For high volume players, the amount they receive in rakebacks can really add up. It is especially sweet when you are running good and winning big pots, since the rakeback makes those pots even bigger. A rakeback can even turn a break-even month into a slightly profitable experience, and lessen the pain a bit when you’ve been losing.

Rakebacks are generally available through web site affiliates - poker rooms that partner to bring in more customers. The affiliate site receives a portion of the rake that acquires the newly referred customer as compensation for delivering new business. The affiliate then passes along the rakeback (or a portion of it) to the player. Some poker rooms offer direct rakebacks to their players too with no affiliate involved.

If you are considering signing up for rakeback offer at a site, consider these factors:

* The site’s reputation - how long has it been in business? Check out some the online blogs about rakebacks to get feedback from actual users.

* What is the percentage of the rakeback? Obviously, bigger is better.

* Method and frequency of payment - is it an easy process and how quickly do you get paid –daily, weekly, or monthly? If you have a preference, then look for that deal.

* How is rakeback calculated? Two methods are typically used - dealt hands or contribution amounts. Most players prefer the dealt method, but for those loose players who feed lots of pots, the contribution method is preferable.

* Which games are eligible for rakebacks - don’t sign up to play in games you don’t know just because there is a rakeback. Look for games you can win.

Pushing Too Hard Too Soon

Everyone knows that when playing online poker from early position, you traditionally need a higher value of cards to come into a pot. In order to open from early on the value of your hand has to be reasonably matched against all the other poker players who have yet to act behind you. Opening for a raise from these spots with your big hands is important, in that just limping might allow the blinds to see a flop for very cheaply and draw you out.

Raising too hard, though, can be just as much of a mistake as not raising at all. A standard raise of 3 to 4 times the big blind is standard and smart practice. Raising more with hands like JJ or 10 10 might cause hands that you dominate, such as 8 8 or pockets fives, to fold, while hands that dominate you, such as KK or AA, will most often reraise you, or trap you into thinking your hand is best.

Thus, sticking to the traditional standard opening raise is better than pushing too hard in fear you won’t be able to protect your hand. You’d like action, but you don’t want to be forced to a decision preflop in a spot where you could have proceeded with more temerity for better results. Remember this when you play online poker.

Beating Calling Stations

Calling stations are online poker players who refuse to fold-they’ll call anything, they rarely raise, and they don’t ever give up their hands. They are predicable, loose, and they tend to pay me the most money. They’re my favorite online poker players to go up against, because I can always count on them paying off whenever I have a winning hand. I used to hate playing against poker calling stations because I could never bluff them, but I was coming at them from the wrong end of the spectrum. Calling stations will cost you money if you don’t have a winning hand, but if you do, they’re a gold mine. The key to beating a calling station is patience. You can’t bluff them because they absolutely won’t fold, but you can take them to the cleaners every time you get a good hand. If you wait until you make a great hand or the nuts, you can raise these guys with impunity. You know they won’t re-raise against you, and you know that you can raise whatever you want without worrying about scaring them off. The only thing that you need to worry about when you find a calling station is that someone else will bury them before you get the chance to.

Lighting of Thai Lantern or Khoom Fay

Khoom Fay are traditional Thai lanterns, made from cut tissue paper with a bamboo skeleton. A flaming cell tied to the lantern offers hot airThey ascend gracefully, and are an dramatic sight, peculiarly when discharged at constant intervals to form a chain of lights rise into the sky. They are equally prestigious by daylight or by night. For Day releases I feel that the coloured lanterns are to a greater extent striking and the night becomes a bright white glowing Thai Lantern but that is just my own individual view.Carefully take out the Thai Lantern, without tearing the delicate paper. Ensure the lantern is fully extended, and not wrinkled or hanging sideways. This is greatest complete by taking the top of the lantern, raising it a few feet softly, then crisply dropping it. Air pressure will blow up the unit.Have a supporter light the wick whilst you declare the lantern upright. After a few seconds the lantern will feel lighter, then rise gradually. Just point it and let it go by itself, do not attempt to throw it up into the air. Then stand back and relish. These lanterns are thought for use by experienced pyrotechnic operators. Don mitts and fire-proof clothing, and have on standby a bucket of H2O.
