Beating Calling Stations
Calling stations are online poker players who refuse to fold-they’ll call anything, they rarely raise, and they don’t ever give up their hands. They are predicable, loose, and they tend to pay me the most money. They’re my favorite online poker players to go up against, because I can always count on them paying off whenever I have a winning hand. I used to hate playing against poker calling stations because I could never bluff them, but I was coming at them from the wrong end of the spectrum. Calling stations will cost you money if you don’t have a winning hand, but if you do, they’re a gold mine. The key to beating a calling station is patience. You can’t bluff them because they absolutely won’t fold, but you can take them to the cleaners every time you get a good hand. If you wait until you make a great hand or the nuts, you can raise these guys with impunity. You know they won’t re-raise against you, and you know that you can raise whatever you want without worrying about scaring them off. The only thing that you need to worry about when you find a calling station is that someone else will bury them before you get the chance to.
