Jason Seeley’s War - Book Review

“Jason Seeley’s War” is centered in the heart of a small
American town where two youth are deeply in love, and have
been since high-school. Jason and Natalie’s love runs with
a flexible strength that endures her recovery from a horrible
drug addiction. A very promising athlete and student, Jason
is welcomed to University, but Natalie won’t let him go
without extracting a promise from him to stay faithful to the
love of his life. This promise - he meant to keep. But then
the Vietnam War happened and Jason was assigned a draft
number just before graduation. He knew government
agents were about to collect.

Jason was forced to go against his patriotic upbringing
because he refused to play a part in a war that he did not
support. Now labeled a ‘draft dodger’ Jason is a fugitive in
America and for his own safety he runs to Canada. Luckily,
he stumbles on an underground organization that attempts
to protect people like him from FBI Agents. Jason eventually
begins a new life dream of becoming a history professor
through the help of kind friends. However, he fears this new
dream will mean leaving behind everything and everyone he
ever loved. Jason is haunted day and night by the question
‘Will he ever be with Natalie again?’.

I felt that Dean Salter did a wonderful job portraying this
aspect of war. How this young man running from a war he
could not believe in, tore families apart. The community was
also torn in their perception of this ‘criminal’ in their midst.
New customs, new friends - a new life to try to fit into
somehow, without the people he grew up with confused this
frightened young man. Betrayal and grievances create
miscommunications and a rift between his family begins
that may never be repaired. Strangers along the way helping
in the capacity they could at that time, never fully realizing
their small aide was a turning point for this young man’s
journey. This is a side of the story of war that is rarely told so
eloquently.

I Hear Gaea - Book Review

I have to say that I found this work simply breath-taking from the first poem on. Tessa Crigger focuses on issues of conscious living, anti-racism, natural resource consumption, the necessity of finding alternatives and the importance of the individual. At the end of the book, she gives readers a glimpse into her personal life, which I think was helpful in understanding the author.

Her unique style made me feel teleported to a warm night, a warming campfire and sitting quietly while listening to ancient stories and lessons orated by elders. It was a wonderful feeling.

Tessa insists upon the power of the individual: “act upon these things and turn no more blind eyes, become what we were meant to be and at least give it a try”. Her passion for the health of the planet is quite admirable.

I was honestly so taken with what Tessa had to say, I even wrote the following quotes out for my bulletin board: “Nations are built upon it and wars are fought to keep it, when all along we should be looking for a way to heal it” and “The children must be given more than a picture or a museum, the nature of our planet cannot be found in a coliseum”.

Though a little long, her poems had many valuable thoughts to share and did not seem to ramble or get redundant. I truly believe her work will help influence others to make an effort for a positive change. Just like ripples in the pond, each one of us can have a very real and important impact, even with the smallest of actions.

Purchasing Business Cover Is Absolutely Key to the Longevity of Your Organisation

There is no denying the fact that the triumph of a firm in the end is attributed to the dedicated work of the staff, yet one disaster can wipe out your hard work & shrink the profits to zero. So, to avoid such an instance, you are advised to insure your company, whether it’s a small company or a huge corporation. Nonetheless, please remember that smaller organisations are a great deal more likely to require business insurance protection in today’s busy world. This is essentially because smaller organisation owners will have placed their whole lives and salary into the company.

A few of the topics normally guarded by nearly every business insurance covers consist of: natural disasters, avalanches, mechanism or equipment crash that closes the business, loss of income caused by personnel failure and lawsuits brought against the business.

There are many insurance businesses, which provide policies that include both protection for all key property and liability risks in one entire package. You can also obtain a separate coverage. Such a coverage is typically branded as a business owners’ policy (BOP). Large sized firms may obtain a business-related cover.

BOPs comprise of office insurance for property & equipments belonging to the company. If there is any loss of revenue as a result of disruption of processes & trade because of catastrophes such as hurricanes, it can be protected under the Business Interruption Insurance policy. Get a business insurance quote online today.

There are an assortment of policies, which insure the company’s legal duty for the injury it may well cause to others. It’s the effect your organisation’s failure to do the business operations. It can as well be the bodily injury or building damage caused owing to imperfect manufactured goods, faulty fittings and errors in services provided.

Though, BOPs don’t protect against professional liability, auto insurance, staff compensation or health and disability insurance. In this instance separate policies are essential for professional services, vehicles and staff. More often than not, floods, earthquakes & terrorist attacks are not protected in the business insurance. Please check before you purchase a policy!

Are Ebooks Overpriced?

Who ever thought that one day books would not be written. People no longer have to go to stores and buy books anymore, they can read them online by authors who instead of paying the extra money to get published, simply put their book in a virtual form. No costs involving materials, dealers, book stores, or advertisement. It can all simply be done on the computer.

But is this new revolution of the press good for the consumer? I went browsing through some Ebooks the other day, ranging in titles from “How to tame your dog” to “What Google Never Told You About Making Money with AdSense.” They were also ranging in price from about 5 cents to almost $100. What do we get out of these high priced books? First off, I can tell you what we as consumers do not get. We do not get a tangible item (unless of course you print the pages, get a good old fashioned stapler, and try to put one through about 200 pages of computer paper), we do not get the experience of sitting down in a quiet place in a comfy chair (note: my chair has four legs, a back, and a seat that are all made out of wood as soft as a park bench), and we do not get to return our item after our purchase. We instead are either given the link to a .pdf file or actually sent a .pdf file (I like how the later makes you think that you actually “own” the item).

Do we really want to pay upwards of $20 to get something that can be wiped out with the crash of our computer? I say buy the book and print it, or better yet, go to the store and buy a real book, just like we’ve been doing for the last few hundred years.

Book Publishing for Entrepreneurs

There was a time when it was relatively easy to get a book published. You took a great idea to an agent, the agent sold the idea to a publisher, and soon you could call yourself an author. Unfortunately the market has shifted. Unless you are a celebrity or come to the table with an eager audience of book buyers, most publishers won’t even blink your way no matter how great your idea.

Because of this shift in the industry, more and more writers are turning to self-publishing. Some big success stories have emerged from the trenches of previously unknown authors who took control of their publishing destinies. “What Color is Your Parachute?” by Richard Nelson Bolles, “The Celestine Prophecy” by James Redfield, and “The One Minute Manager” by Ken Blanchard and Spenser Johnson, all started out as independents. Even the infamous Amy Fisher turned to print-on-demand for her recent memoir, reportedly so that she could retain control over the content and promotion while retaining a bigger percentage of the profits.

Self Publishing Options

If you are considering publishing a book yourself, you have two primary options: self-publishing and print on demand (POD). Basic self-publishing involves establishing your own publishing company, contracting a cover designer, laying out the interior of the book and purchasing an International Standard Book Number (ISBN). Once all the setup is complete, you can then have the book printed by a book binding company–usually in very large quantities (3000+) at a cost per book ranging from $1.00-$5.00. Once the book is published, you need to get the book listed with the online book sellers and with the large distributors if you want your title to have a chance of making it into the big bookstores.

POD companies charge a set-up fee ranging from $350-$1000 and most will layout the book, assign an ISBN number, print books on an as-needed basis (no major quantity purchases are required), and get them into the inventories of the major distributors and online booksellers.

Depending on your goals, POD or traditional self-publishing can allow you to transform your manuscript into a hardcover or trade paperback in a matter of weeks. It can take a year or more for a big-name publisher to transform a manuscript into a book, and author royalties are surprisingly low. Publishing yourself gives you control over the time to market and can also lead to hefty profits. Here are some additional considerations:

Self-Publishing Pros

-You keep control over all rights.

-Individual book cost is low, resulting in a higher profit margin.

-Once you set up your publishing company, it’s a bit easier to print subsequent books.

Self-Publishing Cons

-You have to do all the work: establish a publishing company, purchase an ISBN, get the cover created, layout the text, get listed with distributors, etc.

-Startup costs can be high since you typically have to purchase a large quantity of books.

-Revisions can be expensive if you haven’t yet sold the bulk of your initial inventory.

Print-On-Demand Pros

-Startup costs are lower since you only pay a set up fee and for the copies you need.

-Updating the book is simpler since you won’t have hundreds of overstock copies in your store room.

-Most POD companies will get your title listed with distributors and book sellers.

Print-On-Demand Cons

-Profit margin is lower since the POD companies take a percentage of sales.

-Some contracts can be restrictive with rights and terms (contracts should be carefully reviewed).

-Reputation: The big bookstores don’t yet regard POD books as having much credibility.

Lessons Learned from the Publishing Industry

You may still want to investigate selling your idea to a big publisher, and you should. The process of pitching a book idea to agents and editors can teach you a lot about the publishing industry. The first question you will be asked is; “What is your platform?” Agents and publishers want authors with a ready-made audience of book buyers and if you don’t have a national presence with speaking engagements or other notoriety, your chances of being published the traditional way are slim.

But don’t let the pitching process kill your dreams. The lesson to be learned from the publishing pros is that you need to have a way to market and sell your book. Before you even consider publishing yourself, develop a marketing plan. Determine who will buy your book and how you will reach your audience. If you know how to market your ideas, and use the resources at your disposal (how-to books and publishing websites), you can create your own self publishing success story.

Zimmer Durom Cup Hip Device Recall Is Tough News

Many people who had durom metal used in their hip replacement operations are discovering that there are negative effects that far exceed the natural expectations for recuperation. These patients are feeling a lot of unnecessary anguish for lengthier time periods, expecting revision surgical procedures and increased medical costs, and losing revenue by not physically being able to work at their official businesses. Although Zimmer Holdings, Inc. is postulating that that their hip cup implant in no way flawed and say it is not their fault for the faililng hip implants, numerous poor people are filing lawsuits against them and accepting settlements.

Sometime during October, 2008 Zimmer declared that it had set-aside $47.5 million to compensate for claims filed against them. Many docs are not 100% convinced that the hip implant is as good as the company says it is. In Point Of Fact, when Zimmer tendered online education to doctors in order to instruct them what they said were more correct techniques for executing the implant surgical operation, roughly 50% of the physicians declined to participate. Thus, the entire state of affairs proceeds to be stressful for all patients attached, but none more than the hundreds of people who are looking forward to revision surgical procedure because of the issues with their implant experiencing failures.

These hurting patients definitely deserve some aid and restitution which is the main reason product liability attorneys are supporting them by telling them to initiate lawsuits. Zimmer hip implants has been settling up with these claims. Still, even if the payoff they are being offered seems like it could be a air settlement, in most cases people are deciding too quickly and with no provision or allowance being made for ongoing issues down the road. Without waiting to find out what cases are actually going to be worth, people may find themselves paying thousands of dollars out of their own pocket when further complications return.

If your orthopedic doctor updates you with bad news that you will definitely have to undergo a revision surgical process to repair your Zimmer Durom hip replacement device, contact an attorney as soon as possible.

Once your lawyer tells you that you have a case, be prepared to spend some time waiting it out for the best possible settlement that your lawyer will be able to negotiate for you. Heed the good advice that your lawyer offers you and dont demand speedy restitution. Being patient at this stage of the case can pay off vs. just rushing the process.

So You Wanna Write an eBook?

The buzz in writing circles these days is all about self-publishing eBooks. They hear that eBooks are giving authors that added income in between getting their print books published, but they have lots of questions before making that step.

“How do I make one?”

“What do I write about?”

“Does anyone even buy eBooks?”

Actually, putting together an eBook is simple. You write about something you are familiar, put it in a .pdf or .exe file and voila, instant eBook that you can sell off your website and make a few dollars, or even thousands of dollars depending on your promotional efforts, and you’re all set.

Authors and entrepreneurs are doing this all the time and there’s no reason why you can’t either.

The first step is determining what you want to write about, of course, and what your goal is for writing your eBook.

In 2004, I became published in print format for the first time. It was for an anthology of soul mate stories. The main reason I wanted to put this book together was because I had a goal in mind. I wanted to show people who have given up on soul mates that they did indeed exist.

After it was published, I started a marketing campaign. I had heard that eBooks were all the rage and that you could make some pretty decent money off of them, so I gave it a try.

I started on another book on relationships, but while waiting on this book to be finished (which was taking an incredible amount of time due to research), I decided to try my hand at writing an eBook and selling it off of my website for added income while I waited on my print book projects to be finished.

This eBook was also centered on the soul mate relationship, which I felt would add to my expertise and would help sell my print books.

It worked.

Even though I only had the eBook up on my website and just a few online storefronts, the orders were coming in. However, I became disillusioned because I didn’t just want to sell a few copies; I wanted to sell hundreds or perhaps more.

I developed a plan.

Not only did I list it with any website that would announce my book, write up press releases and send them to every free press release service out there, and a myriad of other places, but I decided I’d write another eBook and give it away free to all those who bought my paying eBook.

This eBook was shorter, but to the point.

After I became successful using this promotional device to sell my paying eBook, I found this experience very rewarding and learned quite a few things in the process:

1.) You do not need an epublisher to publish your book.

2.) Self-published eBooks DO sell and create that added income while you’re waiting for your print books to sell.

3.) Writing eBooks help give you expert status.

4.) Your eBooks are 100% profit.

5.) The more you promote and make you and your eBook visible, the more income you will make.

Writing eBooks and selling them yourself without the middleman - the epublisher - is a great way to make money. Turn that “starving writer” moniker into “successful writer” and start cranking out those eBooks. Once you start, you’ll wonder why you never thought of this great way of bringing added income into your household before!

Security Hints for Dating Online

Internet dating can be a very nice choice for numerous people. It offers some benefits that conventional dating is unable to offer you, such as the convenience of being able to contact individuals from home and the ability to find a person who shares several of the exact concerns that you have. Be diligent however, that there are risks related to Internet dating sites. Detailed below are a few of the security hints that anyone interested in web dating should be familiar with.

Talk to the Person For Awhile Prior To Meeting
You should determine that you are meeting a decent person, it is a reasonable idea to speak to them for awhile before meeting. Pay special attention to what they talk about, in order to make sure that they do not appear cranky or disturbed. Remember that the more you talk online, the more you will know about what to expect from them in person when it does come time to meet.

Never, Under Any Circumstances Give Out Personal Information Via the Internet
When you talk to someone on-line, it’s a an unsafe idea to give out private information. Do not tell the person where you live or where you work. Do not give them a telephone number until it comes time for you to meet in person, and then, err on the side of caution. Obviously, do not offer on-line strangers with information that is more private than your location.

Meet in a Public Location
When it is time for you to meet a person that you have been chatting with on the Internet, it is imperative to keep in mind that it’s never a safe idea to meet them in a secluded location. Someplace private, such as a shopping mall, tends to be much more reasonable. It’s also a good idea to avoid meeting a date from the net by yourself. Bring along a couple acquaintances and make it a group date. If no one else is available to get together when you plan to meet this individual, by all means be sure to let someone know where you are meeting and what you will be doing. Have them call you several times to ensure that everything is going okay. It might look overly cautious, but it can protect you in the end.

These are just a few of the security tips for on the Internet dating that you must know about. Bear in mind that it’s always important to take into account your intuition when you meet individuals from the Internet. If you feel that that meeting them in person may not be a good idea or you happen to get a weird feel when you do actually meet, then is it possible that this person may not be a desirable choice for you.
